Leah Stanley

Leah Stanley

Hi, I’m Leah Stanley, and I’ve been blessed to spend the last 13 years teaching and supporting students in grades K-6 in Hampton County Schools. I have spent the last 10 years teaching 2nd and 3rd grade ELA and Social Studies here at Ben Hazel Elementary. I earned my Bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina-Aiken, my Master's in Education from Walden University, and I’m currently working toward my EdS in Educational Leadership and Administration from Walden.

I truly believe that building strong, lasting relationships with my students and their families is at the heart of meaningful learning. That’s why my teaching philosophy centers on creating connections that will have a lasting, positive impact.

I was honored to be named the 2022 Hampton County School District Teacher of the Year and the 2022 recipient of the Charles H. Dickerson Award in the state of South Carolina. These awards are a reflection of my passion for helping students succeed and creating a supportive environment where everyone feels valued.

Michelle Purdy

Hello! My name is Michelle Harter Purdy

This is my 33rd year of teaching. I taught one year in fifth grade, 26 years in Kindergarten, and six years as Reading Coach at Ben Hazel Elementary.

I completed my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood education from USC Aiken. I am also certified in Elementary Education.

I obtained a Master’s Degree in Arts in Curriculum from Lesley University and currently have a Masters +30 degree with the extra literacy classes I have taken.

I believe every child can become a confident reader with explicit instruction, consistent practice, and encouragement. My role is to support teachers and students by using data-driven strategies that build strong literacy foundations. I collaborate with teachers to ensure all students receive systematic and meaningful literacy instruction.
